SUMMARY:Feedback by Olukemi Lijadu
DESCRIPTION:Spike Island presents Feedback\, the largest solo exhibition by Nigerian-British artist\, filmmaker and DJ Olukemi Lijadu. Developed through research in Chicago\, Lagos and Bristol\, the exhibition centres on a major new film commission marking a landmark in the artist’s moving image practice. \nThe film uses audio feedback as a metaphor for the circulation of rhythm\, memory and cultural codes within the African diaspora. Tracing the evolution of the drum from West African tradition to electronic music\, Lijadu explores how looping underpins not only music but collective memory and connection across continents and generations. \nA sound system completes the installation\, drawing from Bristol’s sound system culture and functioning as a physical metaphor for the amplification of histories\, voices and vibrations. Inspired by early abstract cinema\, Feedback embraces repetition\, tempo and visual rhythm\, subverting a Western-centric art history in the process. \nFeatured image: ‘Feedback’ works in progress (2025). Courtesy of the artist. \nABOUT OLUKEMI\nOlukemi Lijadu is a multi-disciplinary artist and DJ\, with a focus on moving image and sound. She was recently a recipient of London’s ICA Image Behaviour grant where she was commissioned to create and debut her most recent film-performance Guardian Angel.  \nIn 2018\, she graduated from Stanford as a masters student in Philosophy where she focused on African philosophical systems. Her academic background grounds her research-based approach to her artistic practice. Her work explores questions around music of the diaspora\, heritage and the complexity of feeling.\n\n@kemkemlij

DESCRIPTION:Our monthly Artist Gatherings are designed to bring together members of our network to connect\, share their projects\, and discuss areas where support is needed within the arts community.\n\n\n\nCome along this Friday 27th February\, 11am-1pm in the Community Workshop at Arnolfini to our Artists Gathering when we’ll be talking about how to get involved with festivals. With guest speakers from Team Love and Harbourside Festival\, it’s a chance to find out what bookers are looking for and how you can take part.\n\n\n\nOur members get FREE access to all Artists Gatherings!\n\n\n\n \n\n\nAccessibility Information: \n\nBlue Badge Parking\nThere are two designated Blue Badge parking spaces within easy reach of Arnolfini in the Mud Dock City Docks car park\, accessed via The Grove Car Park. There are also five spaces in The Grove Car Park. Parking in the accessible blue badge spaces are free\, and are available on a first-come\, first-serve basis. You can find more car parks on the Travel West website. \nLevel Access and Lifts\nAccess to the main entrance is via automatic doors from the quayside\, which has a uneven cobbled surface. There is smooth level access from Prince Street to our Café Bar entrance as well as at the main entrance of Arnolfini from both Prince Street and Narrow Quay. \nThere are lifts to all floors and level access to all public spaces\, including galleries\, shop and café bar. \nAccessible Toilets\nAccessible toilets can be found on Floor -1\, 0 and 2. \nPlease note that sometimes our visitor toilets may be fitted with a code lock\, you can receive this code from any of our Team at the entrance to the building. \nInduction Loops\nThere is a induction loop system covering most areas of the Theatre.
