By the end of the session\, participants will gain practical skills\, creative confidence and a deeper understanding of how to use their voice as a tool for musical expression\, composition and experimental performance. \nOpen to all – no prior singing experience required. This is a unique chance to access methods and exercises previously experienced only by members of AUGUST’s experimental vocal ensembles. \nAge: 16+ \nVenue: The Harbour Totterdown\, BS4 2EG \nContact the venue for accessibility information. \nABOUT AUGUST \n\nAUGUST is a Bristol-based singer\, songwriter\, producer\, presenter\, composer\, and educator creating hybrid live electronic music rooted in bass\, dark soul\, and experimental sound design. Recently long-listed for MPG Self-Producing Artist of the Year with Earmilk describing the project as “…one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists.” she has performed at Bristol Beacon\, The Mount Without\, and Shindig Festival. \n\n\nAlongside her artistic practice\, AUGUST’s pioneering work with vocal ensembles – including her foundational contributions to Bass Choir\, which helped shape contemporary bass-driven vocal practice – continues to inform her curatorial and educational projects\, including Night Notes\, a borderless radio residency exploring global\, Black-origin sounds. A dedicated mentor and facilitator\, she empowers learners and audiences to develop creative confidence\, practical skills\, and musical agency through songwriting\, production\, and vocal experimentation.\n\n@augustofficialmusic\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Desi Day: Bristol Baithaks: Morning Ragas
DESCRIPTION:A Baithak (‘bair-tak’) is an informal and intimate concert in which raga-based music is performed. This is the first in a series of baithaks in the Southwest to take place throughout 2026 in partnership with ZerOclassikal\, The Mehfil Space\, Curzon Cinema & Arts\, and Arts Council England National Lottery Projects Grants. \nRagas are the melodic foundation of South Asian Classical music traditions. Every raga has a specific mood and association with a time of day. Morning ragas are much more rarely performed in the UK\, because concerts are more often programmed in the evening. \nStart your day and your weekend with the sensation of tender and reflective morning ragas performed by Dr Pete Yelding on sitar\, accompanied by Dhanraj Persaud Pandey on tabla. This session\, part of Desi Day – celebrating South Asian culture with a series of events at Arnolfini\, will take place in the theatre on the ground floor. \nFor all ages (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult) \nVenue: Arnolfini\, BS1 4QA \nFor access information visit the venue website \nAbout Pete \nDr Pete Yelding is a sitarist and cellist\, and the 7th generation of a family of travelling performers. He is one of only a handful of contemporary musicians to become an exponent of the Hindustani music lineage known as the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana\, headed by his teacher\, Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan. \nHe establishes in his performances a raw\, but tender evocation of whichever raga he is presenting. He seeks to rehabilitate for modern audiences the deeply stirring\, heavier sound of past sitar and sarod luminaries. \n@peteyelding \n \n\n

SUMMARY:Global Majority Environment Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Across Bristol\, Global Majority communities are already engaging in environmental work in many different ways – through community organising\, food growing\, cultural practice\, land stewardship\, wellbeing and care. \nHowever\, much of this work remains unseen\, disconnected and largely excluded from how climate action is shaped in the city. Come as you are. Bring your work\, your experience\, your questions and your curiosity. What becomes possible when we organise from what we already have? \nAge: 16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)\nVenue: The Pickle Factory\, BS5 0HL\nAccess: The main hall\, cafe and garden are all accessible to wheelchair users. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor.\n \nPlease fill out this short form to book your place.  \nFacilitators\nJosé Barco (CoLab International)\nGnisha Bevan (Black Seeds Network/ Nature Rising)\n \nAbout Gnisha\nGnisha Bevan is an Educator\, Producer and Consultant. She leads the Black Seeds Network\, co-developed with Roger Griffith MBE\, to showcase and support the incredible work of Global Majority environmentalists around Bristol.
