DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, artist\, singer and dancer Batch Gueye leads you through traditional griot songs from West Africa. Drawing from the musical heritage of Senegal\, Casamance\, The Gambia and Mali\, you’ll explore the spiritual chants of the Senegalese Baye Fall people and learn songs associated with their leader. \nSinging becomes a form of prayer\, teaching kindness\, presence and understanding. Open to everyone\, the workshop invites you to harmonise\, explore your voice and tune into what you carry within. \nBaye Fall is a Senegalese Mouride collective. Their role is to encourage and unite people\, listen with compassion\, work with devotion and remain humble. They often hold chanting ceremonies and feed their community. \nPlease note: participants are asked to wear modest clothing covering shoulders and legs. By sharing stories and using gentle creative prompts\, the workshop aims to form a community rooted in the power of being truly heard and validated. \n\nABOUT CORINNE \nCorinne Walker is a Bristol-based writer\, director\, creative producer and performer working across stage and screen. She creates political yet playful work\, such as her play The Fight Well Project\, which explores the experiences of Black women in the healthcare system and toured to London\, Bristol and Plymouth in 2024. \nA graduate of the Channel 4 New Writers Scheme\, Corinne’s BFI NETWORK-funded film Homegrown has screened at BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals both in the UK and internationally. DESCRIPTION:Join poet\, Sharena Lee Satti\, for this all-abilities workshop exploring how identity and home can shape creative expression. The session invites participants to reflect on their own stories\, the echoes of memory and the spaces they inhabit\, transforming personal experience into authentic poetry. \nThrough gentle prompts\, guided exercises and discussion\, participants will:\n– explore how identity\, background and community influence their poetic voice\n– experiment with transforming personal stories and journeys into poetry\n– learn ways to weave emotions into spoken word\, giving them life upon the page. \nNo experience is necessary\, just an open mind and a willingness to try something new. This workshop celebrates resilience\, belonging and self-expression\, providing a quiet space to explore\, create and be heard. \nAbout Sharena: \nSharena Lee Satti is an acclaimed poet\, spoken word artist and advocate for the transformative power of creative expression. Her work explores themes of identity and resilience\, with performances at the WOW Festival and British Council Nepal. Known for her raw authenticity\, Sharena uses poetry to connect diverse audiences and challenge social boundaries. \n18+ \n \n\n

DESCRIPTION:A free monthly meet-up for creatives\, artists and technologists interested in making things happen in/with communities. Whether you already work with communities or are curious to begin\, you’re welcome here – all that’s needed is a genuine interest in community-centred\, collaborative ways of making. These meet-ups are always evolving in response to the group. Currently\, they range from hands-on making\, reflection\, project-sharing\, artist-led workshops and inspiration. \nFree dinner and hot drinks included.
