They’ll be working through different mediums of art\, seeing how you can incubate your creativity using collages and responding to stimuli. There will be opportunities for creative writing and art creation\, and resources to develop yourself will be shared in the session. \nAbout Side eYe \nSide eYe is an award-winning theatre collective staging stories by Muslim women\, collaborating with Black Muslim women and their allies. They are drawn to new writing that is witty\, absurd\, political and truth-telling. Writing that resists pandering to the white gaze\, and invites audiences to think\, to feel\, and to leave changed. Side eYe is more than its productions.  \nThey care about what happens outside the theatre which informs what they do inside it. The collective insists on dismantling barriers to theatremaking by bringing theatre into schools and leading post-show discussions. Cosmopolitan Seychellois will perform a brief stand-up set presenting her perspective as a comedian from the global majority. \nJo Cross – an actor\, writer and para-academic with a longstanding connection to the garment trade. Jo will perform an extract from her show Sartorius\, using verse and narrative to explore the intersections of East London Jewish tailoring and Irish construction communities. \nCeci Opal – a Colombian artist whose movement practice spans theatre\, fusion belly dance and ancestral themes. Ceci will present her piece Scissor Gold Bat\, a dark urban fusion masked solo piece on decolonisation\, with lyrics in English and Quechua. \nMuneera Pilgrim – a poet\, cultural producer and storyteller in residence at Bristol Old Vic\, rooted in community archiving and empowerment. Muneera will perform pieces from her collection That Day She’ll Proclaim Her Chronicles\, exploring Bristolian identity and belonging through music and archive. \nRene Katiisa – a Ugandan-born British actor and theatre-maker based in Bristol\, trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Rene will perform Sugarcane and Concrete\, a theatrical experience following a British Ugandan woman’s journey from childhood to motherhood.

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, artist\, singer and dancer Batch Gueye leads you through traditional griot songs from West Africa. Drawing from the musical heritage of Senegal\, Casamance\, The Gambia and Mali\, you’ll explore the spiritual chants of the Senegalese Baye Fall people and learn songs associated with their leader. \nSinging becomes a form of prayer\, teaching kindness\, presence and understanding. Open to everyone\, the workshop invites you to harmonise\, explore your voice and tune into what you carry within. \nBaye Fall is a Senegalese Mouride collective. Their role is to encourage and unite people\, listen with compassion\, work with devotion and remain humble. They often hold chanting ceremonies and feed their community. \nPlease note: participants are asked to wear modest clothing covering shoulders and legs. DESCRIPTION:Join artist and set designer Alexia Dobre for Miniature Worlds of Broadmead\, a hands-on creative workshop rooted in giving old objects a new life. Using reclaimed and everyday materials\, participants of all ages will explore storytelling\, design and model-making\, building their own tiny dream spaces inspired by Broadmead’s spaces\, histories and identities. \nThis DIASPORA! workshop is part of Compass Presents’ A Love Letter to Broadmead project.
