Sisanda Myataza Kowalski
Musician | Singer | Speaker | Workshop Facilitator
Immersed in the musical heritage of her great-great-grandfather, the esteemed choral composer Yataza, Sisanda Myataza has been intimately connected to the world of music throughout her life. With a passion for the stage cultivated from an early age, this South African artist is a natural-born performer, whether captivating audiences as a solo musician or contributing her talents to diverse musical ensembles.
Since unveiling her inaugural solo album in 2016, Myataza has consistently elevated her artistic prowess, achieving significant milestones, such as gracing the stage at the Cape Town Jazz Festival alongside luminaries like Kamasi Washington and Laura Mvula. Her musical signature, characterised by a soulful and resonant voice, seamlessly weaves together mellow jazz rhythms and Afrobeat influences.
Beyond her achievements as an international singer, Myataza is a dynamic speaker and workshop facilitator. She has imparted knowledge in schools across Bristol through the Bristol Music Trust and Afrika Eye, covering topics ranging from African history and values to singing and beadwork. Recently, she led a transformative music writing and recording session in both France and South Africa, imparting insights into voice and microphone techniques.

“Sisanda Myataza brought her band onstage with a vigorous vocal instrumental that straightaway established her remarkable vocal range and control. It was a brave start and she held the audience’s attention through jazz songs, a Zulu lullaby, and a sequence of Miriam Makeba classics all of which she made her own.”
