Welcome to Talks4Change: Pioneers Of Progress!

On 11 November 2025, the historic Wills Memorial Building will host Talks4Change: Pioneers of Progress, marking 60 years since the Race Relations Act. Curated by Curiosity UnLtd, this landmark summit blends conversation, culture, and civic memory. Highlights include:

– We:Memberance procession led by Bus Boycott pioneers
– Performances by the Renewal Choir
– Poetry from Bristol Poet Laureate Sukina Noor
– A panel featuring the original Bus Boycott pioneers
– A keynote fireside chat with Lord Paul Boateng (UK’s first Black Minister) & Lord Marvin Rees (Europe’s first elected Black Mayor
– A panel conversation with the next generation of changemakers including Meryn Weir, Darren Miller, Sado Jirde, Dr.Mya-Rose Craig – Hosted by Julz Davis

Also, on the first anniversary of his passing, we will honour the legacy of Paul Stephenson by launching an ambitious campaign to position Bristol as the UK Capital of Civil Rights—with the support of Martin Luther King III.

Registration for Talks4Change commences from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

Entry requirements: no age restrictions (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult over 21yrs, 1:1 ratio)

Accessibility Information:

  • Accessible entrance: A permanent ramped entrance with automatic doors is located on Park Street.
  • Lifts: A main lift serves most floors, and several platform lifts are available to cover smaller level changes throughout the building.
  • Accessible toilets: Adapted toilets are available on the ground and second floors.
  • Hearing assistance: Fixed hearing loops are installed in some lecture halls and rooms, including the S.H. Reynolds Lecture Theatre and the Old Council Chamber.
  • Assistance dogs: Guide dogs and other assistance dogs are welcome in the building. 
Areas with limited or no accessibility
  • Tower tours: The tower, which contains the Great George bell, is not accessible. The tour requires climbing hundreds of steps and is not suitable for those with mobility issues.
  • Raised platforms: A raised platform in the Great Hall, used for ceremonies, is accessible only with assistance from an Estates Assistant and is not covered by a lift.
  • Journals in library: Certain sections of the Wills Memorial Library, specifically those containing journals and some law books, are not accessible via lift.
