West African Singing Workshop with Batch Gueye

In this workshop, artist, singer and dancer Batch Gueye leads you through traditional griot songs from West Africa. Drawing from the musical heritage of Senegal, Casamance, The Gambia and Mali, you’ll explore the spiritual chants of the Senegalese Baye Fall people and learn songs associated with their leader.
Singing becomes a form of prayer, teaching kindness, presence and understanding. Open to everyone, the workshop invites you to harmonise, explore your voice and tune into what you carry within.
Baye Fall is a Senegalese Mouride collective. Their role is to encourage and unite people, listen with compassion, work with devotion and remain humble. They often hold chanting ceremonies and feed their community.
Please note: participants are asked to wear modest clothing covering shoulders and legs. Please bring a scarf or something to cover your hair, as is traditional for these ceremonies.
Venue: The Harbour Totterdown, BS4 2EG
Age: 18+
